The Ebem Ohafia community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State has announced the passing and funeral arrangements for its revered traditional ruler, HRH Eze Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, JP.
The announcement was contained in a press release jointly issued by the Central Executive Committee of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union Inc. (EODU) and the Ebem Ohafia Council of Chiefs and Elders.
Eze Ukoha, until his death, served as the Ezieogo/Paramount Ruler of Ebem Ujuruezie, Ohafia, and Kpoke I of Ekeluogo Ebem Autonomous Community.
According to the statement, the traditional ruler died on Saturday, September 26, 2026, a development that has thrown the Ebem Ohafia community, his family and associates into mourning.
The community described his death as a significant loss to the traditional institution and the people of Ebem Ohafia, highlighting his commitment to preserving the community’s customs, traditions and cultural heritage.
His leadership was also acknowledged for contributing to peace, unity and community development throughout his reign.
The community announced that the funeral activities will commence with a Funeral Service in the sense of the Grail Message on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
The traditional rites by the Ebem and Ohafia communities will follow on Saturday, November 28, 2026.
The EODU said details of other traditional rites, ceremonies and funeral arrangements would be communicated to the public in due course.
The community appealed to Umu Ebem at home and in the diaspora, neighbouring communities, friends and well-wishers to remember the bereaved family and the entire Ebem Ohafia community in their thoughts and prayers.
The statement was signed by Chief Uduma Olugu Iroha, President-General, EODU; Mr. Kalu Ogboso Nnoke, Secretary-General, EODU; and Chief Kalu Iroha, JP, Palace Secretary, Ebem Ohafia Council of Chiefs and Elders.
The community prayed that the Almighty Father grant the late traditional ruler eternal rest and give his family and the people of Ebem Ohafia the strength to bear the loss.
