President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd.), on his 85th birthday, describing him as a leader whose impact on Nigeria remains unparalleled.
President Tinubu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Babangida’s eight-year administration left enduring footprints on Nigeria’s political, economic and geographical landscape.
“Like him or not, former President Babangida impacted Nigeria in ways no other leader has.”
According to the President, Babangida’s administration expanded the nation’s economy, developed critical infrastructure and established several agencies and institutions that continue to contribute to national development.
Tinubu also credited the former military leader with playing a significant role in the creation of states and the development of Nigeria’s federal structure.
The President said Babangida’s legacy would remain indelible in Nigeria’s history, describing his contributions as significant to the country’s development.
Tinubu further noted that even in retirement, Babangida continues to offer counsel and guidance on national issues.
He wished the former military President continued good health, strength and many more years of life.
Babangida, popularly known as IBB, served as Nigeria’s military President from 1985 to 1993. President Tinubu similarly praised his contributions to infrastructure, economic reforms, state creation and national development in a birthday message to him in 2025.
