Popular social commentator Prince Isaac Fayose has criticized Peter Obi’s decision to select Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election, describing the choice as a political mistake.
Fayose argued that Baba-Ahmed failed to deliver significant electoral gains for the Labour Party during the 2023 general elections, including in his home state.
In a video posted on his official Facebook page on Monday, the social commentator said Obi’s current running mate possesses greater political relevance and influence than Baba-Ahmed.
Fayose said Baba-Ahmed was relatively unknown nationally before Obi selected him as his running mate in 2022, questioning the rationale behind the decision.
“Datti Ahmed is a failure. Nobody knew this man before Peter Obi picked him in 2022 as his running mate,” Fayose said.
He further claimed that Baba-Ahmed’s performance in the 2023 election demonstrated that Obi had made the wrong choice.
Fayose also alleged that Baba-Ahmed’s recent criticism of Obi was linked to the former Anambra State governor’s decision regarding his choice of political allies ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“He is a failure and a jealous man. He is jealous that Obi did not pick him again this time,” Fayose said.
He went on to argue that Obi’s current running mate is more popular and politically capable in northern Nigeria than Baba-Ahmed.
Fayose’s comments come amid renewed political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
