The Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, has said the community-based security outfit, Iru Ekun, does not pose any threat to the operations of Amotekun in the state.
Iru Ekun, a regional community security initiative, was established by Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
Speaking at the Amotekun headquarters in Akure while parading suspects arrested for various offences across Ondo State, Adeleye said there was a clear distinction between the two security outfits.
According to him, while Amotekun was established through legislation, Iru Ekun was not created under a similar legal framework.
“Amotekun was established through the enactment of the law, while Iru Ekun is not a product of law,” Adeleye explained.
He stressed that Amotekun and Iru Ekun do not operate on the same platform, insisting that the existence of the community-based security network does not constitute a challenge to Amotekun’s mandate.
The commander assured residents that Amotekun, in partnership with other security agencies, would continue to take necessary measures to protect lives and property across the state.
He reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to supporting efforts aimed at maintaining peace and tackling criminal activities in Ondo State.
