The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

A total of 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination, while 1,371,992 candidates sat for the examination, according to the NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi.

Wushishi disclosed the results on Thursday during a press briefing, revealing that 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67%, obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

He added that 1,126,118 candidates, representing 84.70%, obtained five credits and above irrespective of whether they passed English Language and Mathematics.

On examination malpractice, the registrar said 1,496 candidates were involved in malpractice in 2026, compared with 3,878 candidates in 2025, representing a 64.74% decrease.

Wushishi attributed the reduction partly to the adoption of computer-based examinations, which he said had helped to reduce malpractice during NECO examinations.

Addressing the issue of so-called “miracle centres” during the question-and-answer session, the registrar said NECO was not aware of such centres and clarified that the council owns only one school and does not operate miracle centres.
