Staff of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, have passed a vote of confidence in the Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr. Christopher Okoro Kalu, commending his leadership style and efforts to improve staff welfare and reposition the polytechnic.

The endorsement was made during the institution’s monthly Academic Board Meeting held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Addressing members of the board, the Rector reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of staff, urging workers to remain positive and dedicated to their responsibilities.

“I want you people to be happy always so that you can impact our students likewise,” Dr. Kalu said.

He also encouraged staff to be deliberate and responsible in the discharge of their duties, stressing that issues affecting their welfare remained a priority under his administration.

“I want you to be intentional in your actions. Whatever concerns your welfare is paramount to me,” he added.

According to the Rector, staff motivation remains critical to achieving the institution’s academic, administrative and infrastructural objectives.

He assured workers that his administration would continue to implement measures aimed at improving their welfare while creating an enabling environment for effective teaching, learning and research.

The Academic Board meeting brought together heads of departments, deans and other principal officers to review academic programmes, administrative matters and preparations for the new academic session.

In their separate remarks, staff representatives commended Dr. Kalu for what they described as his “people-centred leadership” and expressed their readiness to support policies and initiatives aimed at repositioning the polytechnic and advancing its development.

The vote of confidence is seen as a show of support for the Rector’s administration as the institution prepares for another academic session.
