The Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has assured that only qualified and competent candidates will be recruited in the ongoing exercise to employ teachers for public primary schools across the state.
The Chairman of the Board, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, said the decision was aimed at maintaining high standards of teaching and ensuring pupils receive a strong educational foundation.
Akinwumi disclosed this in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, following the completion of a four-day interview exercise for shortlisted applicants.
According to him, the recruitment process would be strictly merit-based, with candidates assessed according to their qualifications and competence.
“Candidates will be selected strictly on merit and based on their relevant qualifications. Only those with the requisite certificates will be considered,” he said.
The SUBEB chairman explained that the exercise was designed to fill vacant teaching positions and reduce staff shortages in public primary schools, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach communities.
He stressed that the foundation laid at the primary school level plays a critical role in determining pupils’ academic performance at subsequent stages of their education.
“Once pupils fail at the primary school level, it will affect them at the junior secondary school level and in their future academic pursuits. I can assure you that Ekiti SUBEB will not compromise when it comes to the future of our pupils,” Akinwumi stated.
He further disclosed that the interview panel comprised experienced senior technocrats and management officials of the board, including directors, administrative officers and education officers.
The selection process featured oral interviews and micro-teaching sessions to enable the panel assess the candidates’ knowledge, communication skills and teaching abilities.
Akinwumi commended Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for approving the recruitment exercise, which is expected to help address teacher shortages in public primary schools across the state.
