Arise Television’s Morning Show anchor, Rufai Oseni, has claimed that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, may be positioning himself for a future presidential bid.
Oseni made the assertion on Monday while commenting on the recent disagreement between Wike and some governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the broadcaster, President Bola Tinubu may be cautious about escalating the dispute because of his political interests ahead of the 2027 general election.
“You see, I know this country too well. President Tinubu will never rock the boat,” Oseni said, arguing that the President could seek to manage the disagreement while maintaining Wike’s support.
He added that the more significant political contest involving Wike could emerge after the 2027 elections, particularly over the future direction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Oseni also questioned how Wike would seek to rebuild the PDP after his involvement in the party’s internal crisis and his support for a faction within the party.
“All of this Wike is playing, forget it, he has presidential ambitions,” Oseni said, adding that Wike’s current political activities could be part of a long-term strategy ahead of a future presidential contest.
The broadcaster further suggested that Wike’s age gives him time to pursue such political ambitions in the future.
Wike contested the PDP presidential primary in 2022, finishing behind former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who emerged as the party’s presidential candidate. Wike has since remained a prominent figure in Nigeria’s political landscape while serving as FCT minister under the APC-led Federal Government.
Oseni’s comments represent his own political assessment and do not amount to a declaration by Wike that he intends to contest a future presidential election.
