Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has significantly changed the pace of infrastructure development in Abuja.

Wike made the remarks on Wednesday in Abuja after inspecting several ongoing road and infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity, easing traffic congestion and opening up new areas for development across the territory.

Among the projects inspected were Arterial Road S1, linking Ring Road II to Arterial Road S20 in Kaura District; Collector Road C2 in Life Camp, connecting to Arterial Road N5; and Arterial Road N16, linking Ring Road II with Ring Road III.

The minister also inspected Jereton Mariere Street around the Apo Legislative Quarters in Gudu District and ongoing remodelling work at the IBB Golf Course.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress of the projects, Wike said the Tinubu administration had “redefined infrastructure” in the FCT.

He expressed particular optimism about the completion of Arterial Road N16, despite the challenging terrain and major bridge construction involved. According to him, the contractor has assured the FCT Administration that the project will be completed by the first week of January.

Wike said completion of the N16 project would significantly improve connectivity in the affected areas, describing it as a major infrastructure project.

On the IBB Golf Course, the minister said the facility was expected to be fully operational and ready to host major tournaments by November.

Wike also disclosed that implementation of the FCT’s 2026 capital budget had reached 60 per cent, despite initial delays in the release of funds which temporarily affected payments to contractors.

He said funding had since stabilised, allowing contractors to resume work at full capacity.

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the minister also advised political office seekers to focus on presenting their records and programmes to voters rather than engaging in political distractions.
