Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure re-election in 2027, saying he has faith that the President will return for another term.

Umahi made the statement while appearing on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, where he said Tinubu assumed office at a particularly difficult period for the country.

According to the minister, several challenges have confronted the administration, but he believes Tinubu’s re-election ultimately rests in the hands of God.

“I have faith in God that the President will return because he came at a very challenging period. All manner of obstacles were thrown in his way, but power belongs to God,” Umahi said.

The minister also praised Tinubu’s character and leadership, saying his close working relationship with the President had convinced him that Tinubu has good intentions for the country.

Umahi said the President had never pressured him to award jobs or contracts to particular individuals.

He also explained that many of the projects under his ministry involved contractors who had inherited ongoing projects from previous administrations, stressing that poor performance would not be overlooked regardless of political affiliation.

On the 2027 elections, Umahi expressed optimism that the All Progressives Congress (APC) could win all five states in the Southeast.

Although he declined to give a definitive prediction, the minister said he believed Tinubu would secure substantial votes from the region.

“I will not tell you whether we will win the five votes of the Southeast or not, but the President is going to harvest a lot of votes in the Southeast. My faith is telling me we will win the five states,” he said.

Umahi also urged Nigerians to move beyond regional politics, advocating greater political cooperation across the country.

“We shouldn’t play regional politics because it doesn’t help us. As a region, we should be able to have a handshake across the Niger,” he added.
