Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has assured the newly posted Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 9, Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, of the state government’s continued support to strengthen security operations across the state.

Governor Otti gave the assurance on Friday, October 2, 2026, when the new AIG paid him a courtesy visit at the Governor’s Office in Umuahia.

The governor said his administration would continue to provide support aimed at creating a more conducive operational environment for the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.

“We will continue to support you. We will continue to make the environment more friendly for you to operate,” Otti said.

He said the government would examine the logistical and infrastructural challenges affecting the Zone 9 Headquarters, particularly the condition of operational vehicles.

Otti said the state government would consider providing new vehicles or supporting the comprehensive repair and replacement of existing ones to improve the police’s mobility and response to security incidents.

The governor also promised to provide a solar power solution for the Zone 9 Headquarters and said other concerns raised by the AIG would be reviewed for possible intervention.

Earlier, AIG Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka said his visit was to formally introduce himself to the governor following his recent redeployment to head Zone 9, Umuahia.

The AIG highlighted several challenges facing the zonal headquarters, including unserviceable operational vehicles, the absence of a functional 150KVA generator and the need for solar lighting at the facility.

He appealed to the state government to assist in addressing the challenges, noting that improved logistics and infrastructure would enhance police effectiveness and personnel welfare.

The AIG further stressed that security requires cooperation between government and security agencies. He pledged that under his leadership, the police would remain committed to professionalism, discipline and adherence to the rule of law, with emphasis on crime prevention, protection of lives and property, prompt response to security incidents and improved crime detection.
