Renowned talent manager Asa Asika has described Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the most influential Nigerian under the age of 40.
Asika made the claim while speaking on a recent episode of The Manager’s Playbook podcast hosted by Mauricio Ruiz.
According to the talent manager, Davido’s massive social media following makes him one of the most influential Nigerian personalities in the under-40 age group.
Asika said he often jokes with the singer that his level of influence is comparable to that of the President of Nigeria.
He also argued that some of the controversies Davido has faced over the years would have seriously damaged the careers of other entertainers, yet the singer has continued to maintain his relevance.
“Davido is probably the most influential person from Nigeria under 40, in my opinion,” Asika said.
He explained that although people may have different views on influence, social media remains one of the most popular ways of measuring public reach today.
Asika added that Davido’s strong influence has also made him highly attractive to major brands.
“Davido is a walking billboard. Every brand wants to associate with him,” he said.
