Presidential aspirant of the Action Alliance (AA), Joseph Faduri, has insisted that the Labour Party (LP) and its candidate, Peter Obi, won the 2023 presidential election.

Faduri made the claim on Thursday while appearing on Arise Television’s Morning Show, recalling his involvement in the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential campaign.

According to him, he was the person who handed over the LP presidential ticket to Obi in 2022 and had publicly predicted that the party would emerge victorious in the election.

Faduri said, “In 2022, I was the one who handed over the ticket to run for the election under the Labour Party, and I was here also to inform Nigerians that LP would win that election. And, like a joke, at the end of the day, we had Labour Party win that election.”

However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the 2023 presidential election, with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) finishing second and Peter Obi of the Labour Party third. INEC’s official election-results portal records the 2023 presidential results.

Faduri also criticized INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan over the commission’s position on the leadership dispute within the Action Alliance.

He argued that a Court of Appeal decision recognizing Kenneth Udeze as the authentic leader of the party should take precedence over an earlier High Court order.

Faduri questioned why, according to his account, the electoral commission would continue to rely on the earlier High Court order rather than the Court of Appeal decision.

He maintained that INEC, as the electoral umpire, should comply with valid court orders concerning the leadership of political parties.
