The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man, Balamau Lardi, over the alleged stabbing of his 37-year-old wife, Biyagwal Balamau, in Guyuk Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, September 23, at Kurnyi Tudu Village, where the suspect allegedly stabbed his wife in the ribs with a knife.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the command received information about the incident and promptly deployed operatives from the Guyuk Divisional Police Headquarters to the scene.
The officers reportedly rescued the victim and arrested the suspect.
The police said the woman sustained serious injuries to the left side of her ribs and was subsequently taken to a medical facility, where she underwent surgery and is currently receiving treatment.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations into the incident continue.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, condemned the alleged act of gender-based violence and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case for thorough investigation and prosecution.
