Former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has formally assumed office as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain after presenting his Letters of Credence to Spain’s King, His Majesty Felipe VI.

The diplomatic ceremony officially marked Ikpeazu’s commencement of duties as Nigeria’s ambassador to Spain, where he is expected to represent the country and promote its interests.

President Bola Tinubu had on March 6 approved the posting of ambassadors to 65 countries, with Ikpeazu among those appointed to represent Nigeria abroad.

The Senate had earlier confirmed the ambassadors-designate in December following the completion of the required screening and confirmation process.

Following the announcement of Ikpeazu’s appointment, the incumbent Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, congratulated his predecessor and described the posting as an opportunity for him to continue serving the country in a new capacity.

Otti also expressed confidence that Ikpeazu would use the diplomatic assignment to protect and promote the interests of Nigerians living in Spain.

The presentation of credentials now formally places Ikpeazu in his diplomatic role as Nigeria’s representative to Spain.
