The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has vowed to participate in the 2027 general elections despite what it described as repeated attacks and intimidation targeting its members.
The party made its position known in a statement issued late Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, while reacting to an alleged attack on members during a peaceful grassroots meeting in Obuoffia Ward, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The NDC condemned the incident as an unprovoked attack, insisting that intimidation would not derail its political activities or prevent it from exercising its constitutional right to participate in the 2027 elections.
The party alleged that similar incidents had occurred in other parts of the South-East, including Imo State, and accused security agencies of failing to respond adequately to attacks involving its members.
The NDC also alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu was unsettled by what it described as the opposition party’s growing popularity, although it did not provide evidence to substantiate the claim.
According to the party, the alleged attacks would only strengthen its determination to mobilise supporters and expand its political activities across the country.
The NDC maintained that attempts to intimidate its members would not succeed, saying the party remained committed to campaigning and mobilising support for its candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
The opposition party called on security agencies to immediately investigate the alleged attack in Enugu, identify those responsible and prosecute them, including anyone alleged to have sponsored the incident.
