Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has clarified that he never promised President Bola Tinubu that he would defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike said his commitment was to support Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027 and not to become a member of the ruling party.

The former Rivers State governor made the clarification during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday night.

According to Wike, he had made it clear from the beginning that he would support the President but never indicated that he would join the APC.

“I told them I would support the President right from the start. I never told Mr. President I will join APC. Go and ask him,” Wike said.

He added that his decision to support Tinubu should not be interpreted as an agreement to join the ruling party.

Wike also dismissed suggestions that individuals within the APC could influence his decision on whether to join the party.

“If I want to join APC, it’s not people like Hope who will tell me to join APC,” he said.

The FCT minister further criticised what he described as the conduct of some APC members, saying he would not tolerate such behaviour if he were a member of the party.

“In fact, he is lucky I’m not in APC because I wouldn’t put up with that kind of nonsense he’s doing in APC,” Wike added.
