The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Abia State, Kalu Kalu, has challenged Governor Alex Otti to identify a single project executed by his administration in Ohafia Local Government Area.

Kalu, who is from Ohafia, made the challenge during an interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Friday, October 2, 2026.

He claimed that Ohafia Local Government Area had received more than ₦16 billion in allocations over the past three and a half years, but alleged that residents had not seen corresponding projects from the state government.

The ADC candidate said he would withdraw from the 2027 governorship race if Otti or his representatives could identify even one project executed by the state government specifically for the people of Ohafia.

“If your station will go to Ohafia Local Government and show one single project Alex Otti has done for the people of Ohafia Local Government, I will drop my gubernatorial ambition.”

Kalu also alleged that Ohafia had been without electricity for close to 10 years, describing the prolonged power situation as one of the challenges facing the area.

However, reports also indicate that the Otti administration has undertaken infrastructure projects in the wider Ohafia area, including the reconstruction of the Abiriba-Ohafia Highway, which was commissioned in May 2026. The specific claims about the absence of state government projects in Ohafia remain disputed.

Speaking on his plans for Abia if elected, Kalu said his administration would prioritise young people by creating opportunities that would encourage them to remain in the state rather than leave in search of better prospects.

He argued that economic hardship had caused many young Nigerians to lose confidence in the country’s future.

Kalu said his administration would work to create an environment where young people could build careers and businesses within Abia without having to seek opportunities elsewhere.
