Nigerian comedian and influencer, Aderombi Adedayo Martins, popularly known as DeeOne, has criticized Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, over the alleged failure to arrest activist VeryDarkMan after he reportedly declined police invitations for questioning.
DeeOne made the comments in an Instagram video on Tuesday while reacting to the controversy surrounding the police invitation extended to VeryDarkMan.
The comedian compared the situation with the recent arrests of former Big Brother Naija housemate Tacha and businessman Blord, who were reportedly detained after allegedly failing to honour police invitations.
DeeOne argued that the law should be applied equally to all citizens, regardless of their status or public influence.
Reacting to VeryDarkMan’s public response to the police invitation, DeeOne accused the IGP of giving the activist preferential treatment and questioned why similar actions had not been taken against him.
He alleged that VeryDarkMan had been invited by the Nigeria Police Force twice and had publicly indicated that he would not honour the invitations.
DeeOne further claimed that approval had been given for VeryDarkMan’s arrest but alleged that the action was being delayed at the level of the IGP.
He questioned whether the police leadership was acting in the interest of Nigerians or protecting the controversial activist.
The comedian also warned the IGP that public office was temporary and said he would continue to speak publicly about issues he believes were not being properly handled.
DeeOne’s comments have added to the ongoing public debate surrounding the police invitation to VeryDarkMan and the differing reactions to individuals who fail to honour police requests for questioning.
The allegations made by DeeOne against the IGP and the Nigeria Police Force could not be independently verified from the information provided.
