Senator Adams Oshiomhole has clarified that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, rather than the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a political party.
Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District, made the clarification during an interview with TVC on Tuesday.
His comments came amid the growing disagreement between Wike and some APC governors, following the minister’s criticism of some governors whom he described as “politically lazy.”
The former Edo State governor noted that Wike is not a member of the APC but has consistently declared his support for Tinubu’s re-election.
According to Oshiomhole, both Wike and the APC governors share the same objective of supporting the President, despite their differences over party and state-level political interests.
“Wike is supporting President Tinubu and not the APC. The position of some of the APC governors and that of the minister is that they are both unanimous. They are all committed to supporting the re-election of President Tinubu,” Oshiomhole said.
He added that he was comfortable with the situation because both sides were working towards the same goal of backing Tinubu.
“I have not heard any side of the argument suggesting that anyone, including the FCT Minister, is opposed to President Tinubu’s re-election,” he said.
Oshiomhole further stressed that Wike had repeatedly made it clear that he was not an APC member but supported the President.
Wike has also publicly maintained that his support for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid does not amount to support for the APC or its candidates in other elections.
