Nigerian Afrobeats singer Omah Lay has revealed that he has stopped forcing himself to quit smoking after several unsuccessful attempts to break the habit.
Speaking during a recent podcast interview with DJ Dan, the “Soso” hitmaker said he had repeatedly tried to stop smoking but struggled to maintain it.
Omah Lay said he has now chosen to accept smoking as part of his life, arguing that death is inevitable regardless of whether he quits the habit.
He also said smoking gives him what he described as “artificial happiness” and a feeling of rebellion because cannabis is illegal in Nigeria.
The singer explained that he wants to live his life on his own terms and enjoy the things that make him happy.
His comments have sparked conversations online about smoking, addiction, personal choice and the dangers of normalising harmful habits.
