The 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has visited the headquarters of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Abuja to condole with the labour movement over the death of its Secretary-General, Emmanuel Ugboaja.

Obi disclosed the visit in a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, describing Ugboaja’s death as a painful and unexpected loss.

The former Anambra State governor said Ugboaja was a close friend, gentleman and principled advocate who dedicated himself to defending the rights, dignity and welfare of Nigerian workers.

According to Obi, the late labour leader’s commitment to the labour movement and unwavering dedication to the cause of workers made him an exceptional individual.

He said Ugboaja lived a life devoted to service and left behind an enduring legacy through his contributions to Nigeria’s labour movement.

“Today, I visited the headquarters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja to condole with the leadership, led by its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, over the painful loss of the NLC General Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, Esq,” Obi stated.

He added that he was consoled by the fact that Ugboaja lived an exemplary life and dedicated himself to a cause greater than himself.

Obi extended his thoughts and prayers to Ugboaja’s family, colleagues, friends, the NLC and everyone who knew him, while praying for God to grant the family strength to endure the loss.

He also prayed for the late labour leader to be granted eternal rest.
